The music Jaime Fennelly makes under the name Mind Over Mirrors creates a sense of everlasting wonder…If 2015’s The Voice Calling was a somber devotional, Undying Color is shaping up to be praise music for the American landscape.” – NPR

“[A] luminous swirl of exuberant fiddle tunes and melancholic drones.” – Tiny Mix Tapes

“Massive, hypnotic, endless … shoots straight for the stratosphere. – Pitchfork

Mind Over Mirrors has shared the rolling and hypnotic song Glossolaliac” this morning via FACT Magazine, who write that the vocals of Haley Fohr (Circuit des Yeux) and Janet Beveridge Bean (Eleventh Dream Day, Freakwater) “add to Fennelly’s stratospheric soundscapes with textural vocalizations that bring to mind the orbital beauty of Steve Reich while achieving an analog warmth all its own.” Fennelly says the song’s evocative title “Glossolaliac” refers to “one who is intoxicated through a fluid speaking of syllabic, wordless rhythms,” particularly in the context of ecstatic worship. It is taken from Undying Color, out February 17th, which you can preorder here or at the above links.

As Mind Over Mirrors, Chicagoan Jaime Fennelly crafts music that is at once futuristic and deeply influenced by traditional styles. “Glossolaliac” sees the harmonium player and electronic musician incorporating pulsating synths, meditative fiddle played by Califone’s Jim Becker, and minimalist vocals by Eleventh Dream Day’s Janet Bean and Haley Fohr of Circuit des Yeux. Undying Color also features contributions by Death Blues’ Jon Mueller and was engineered by Cooper Crain of Bitchin’ Bajas.

Mind Over Mirrors previously shared Restore & Slip,” which expands on forms pioneered by Henry Flynt and La Monte Young and reflects the immensity and beauty of the natural world.

Mind Over Mirrors will be performing as the quartet of Fennelly, Becker, Bean, and Mueller twice in December.
