In case you missed the all-star Hiss Golden Messenger performance at Hopscotch this past weekend in Raleigh’s Fletcher Opera Theater–one of six shows M.C. Taylor played!–you’re in for a treat. The fine folks at NYC Taper have posted streams, free downloadable audio files, photos, and an essay documenting the extended set here on their site (they also took these photos.) Thanks, y’all!

This was a rare full-band incarnation of HGM, never before assembled in this particular form on one stage, featuring usual suspects Scott Hirsch on bass and Terry Lonergan on drums, as well as Nashville’s William Tyler on guitar, local heads Brad Cook and Phil Cook of Megafaun on guitar and keyboard, and Nathan Bowles of the Black Twig Pickers on banjo. Here’s a taste, but be sure to visit NYC Taper for the rest of the magick:

You’ll hear more from this band on the incredible Haw, HGM’s full-length follow-up to Poor Moon, proudly brought to you by yours truly at Paradise of Bachelors. Expect that LP to drop in Spring 2013, “Kashmir” vibes and all.

We had hoped to have our Hiss Golden Messenger Plays Elephant Micah Plays Hiss Golden Messenger split 7″s in hand for Hopscotch, but delays at the pressing plant pushed back our release slightly. But we’ll have the 45s ready to ship next week, so hang tight, and please take advantage of the extra few days to secure a pre-order bundle here.
