We’re thrilled to open pre-orders for the forthcoming debut LP by the inimitable Jake Xerxes Fussell, a man perhaps described best by his good friend and collaborator William Tyler:

“Jake isn’t just a rare bird, he’s the professor you always wished you had, the friend you never get tired of epic hangs with, the human jukebox, the guitar player and singer who makes any band that he’s in better. He’s a southern scholar and gentleman in the tradition of Jim Dickinson, George Mitchell, and Les Blank. He’s a Dave Van Ronk for SEC country.”

On his self-titled debut album, produced by and featuring William Tyler, the Georgia-bred singer and guitarist—student of Piedmont blues legend Precious Bryant and sideman to Rev. John Wilkins—transmutes ten arcane folk/blues tunes into vibey cosmic laments and crooked riverine rambles. Crack(ed) Nashville session vets Chris Scruggs (steel guitar, bass, mandolin: Bonnie “Prince” Billy, Marty Stuart), Brian Kotzur (drums: Silver Jews), and Hoot Hester (fiddle: Bill Monroe, Ray Charles) crew the push boat.

Jake’s sly, atmospheric blues and ballads are highly recommended if you like Michael HurleyJohn PrineDave Van RonkJim DickinsonRaccoon Records, and associated realms of critterdom. More details on the album here, and Jake’s artist page is here.

HOLIDAY SHIPPING – FREE SHIPPING UPGRADE

Unbelievably, it’s that time of year again, and we know that records make great gifts–and that sometimes we fall behind with our holiday shopping. So for all domestic U.S. orders placed between now through Dec. 19, we’ll automatically upgrade the shipment to First Class or Priority Mail status to make sure it arrives by Dec. 24.

(*Obviously, we can’t guarantee postal schedules, but the USPS tells us this shouldn’t be a problem. This offer does not apply to any order containing J.X. Fussell pre-order, since those orders won’t ship until mid-Jan.)

Happy holidays, y’all!
