Do you like to party? PoB can provide both occasion and means!

Paradise of Bachelors cordially invites you, the listening and dancing public, to join us at a February 19th dance party to celebrate the repressing of Said I Had a Vision: Songs & Labels of David Lee, 1960-1988, the label’s inaugural release, once again available in a second edition of 500 beautiful and heavily annotated vinyl LPs, fresh from the pressing plant.

We are equally delighted to announce our exclusive distribution of Tobacco-a-Go-Go: North Carolina Rock ‘n’ Roll in the Sixties, the groundbreaking and speaker-shaking compilation LP of rare 1960s garage, psych, and soul 45s with an Old North State lineage, originally issued in 1984 on the local Blue Mold label. Record collector, music historian, and musician Ken Friedman (who will also DJ the event) lovingly assembled this collection, the first volume in a series, almost three decades ago–without the help of the interweb, the record collector’s boon and bane–as a tribute to North Carolina’s then-obscure regional scene. Paradise of Bachelors is proud to present the remaining stock of the original 1984 vinyl pressing of this historic anthology–these are unplayed, still-sealed, mint LPs available only in a limited quantity. Get yours before they’re gone forever!

In honor of this happy occasion, the Paradise of Bachelors Soundsystem (DJs Jason Perlmutter and Baldhead Growler), along with special guest Ken Friedman, will be playing the choicest of dancefloor bangers and sneaky jamz for your dancing and drinking delectation. LPs will be available for a special discounted dance-party price of $14 each, or $25 for two. (If you can’t make the party, you can purchase Vision and Tobacco right here on our website.)

Thank you for your attention and for the attendance of your ears and hips at this carousal.

If you fancy, RSVP on our Facebook event page.

P.S. The PoB Soundsystem will also be appearing at two additional, and highly recommended, events during the week following our own diversion.

McSweeney’s vs. Rumsfeld: A Durham bash to celebrate the publication of Donald, the new novel from Dave Eggers’ McSweeney’s that imagines Donald Rumsfeld imprisoned in Guantanamo, written by Eric Martin and Stephen Elliot. Featuring our friends Eric Martin (the esteemed author live and in the flesh) and the PoB Soundsystem with DJ Dr. Wow (MC Taylor of Hiss Golden Messenger.)

Wednesday, February 23, 8-11pm at the Pinhook, Durham, NC. FREE.

Hiss Golden Messenger’s Bad Debt Record Release Show: This is the release performance for Hiss Golden Messenger’s Bad Debt CD and LP, one of the finest records of this year and many others. Honky-tonk pianoman Hans Chew (of D. Charles Speer & The Helix) and the Black Twig Pickerswill also perform. Intermission music by the Paradise of Bachelors Soundsystem.

Saturday, February 26, 8-11pm at All Day Records, Carrboro, NC. $10 donation encouraged. BYOB.
